Victor Olaotan was a veteran Nollywood actor who has come a long way in the movie industry. He was well known for his role in the popular TV series ‘Tinsel’ star.

Apart from acting, many of his fans and followers may not know he used to be a model, and he was a very good singer. Victor Olaotan described himself as a complete Lagos boy as he was born and raised in Lagos state.

Victor Olaotan’s Biography

His full name is Victor Olaoluwatoyefunmi Olaotan. He was born on the 17th of February, 1952; although there are no details of who his parents are on the internet, he, however, revealed his mother was a fashionista, and he took after her as a model.

He had other siblings, but there are no details of who they are. The late actor had an active childhood as he was a footballer. He was raised in Lagos state and described himself as a Lagos boy.

Education

Victor Olaotan, in his bid to know more about acting, attended prestigious Nigerian universities, namely; the University of Ibadan and Obafemi Awolowo University. He also attended Rockets University, United States.

Career

After graduating, he landed his first job as a footballer for the Water Corporation, Ibadan 1st Division. He later worked with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Ibadan.

He started acting at the young age of 15 through the influence of a teacher, Mr Adegoke, who was a member of the Ori Olokun theatre group in the 1970s. Victor Olaotan became a member of the University of Ibadan theatre group, where he met the likes of Professor Wole Soyinka, Jimi Solanke, among others.

He, however, made his first major debut in 1969 when he featured in a play by Laolu Ogunniyi titled ‘Candle in the Wind’; this made him popular in the Western Region during those periods.

After his father’s death, he left Nigeria for the United States in 1979; he was among the few Nigerians that accompanied former President Shehu Shagari to meet with Ronald Reagan, the US former President, in 1981.

During his stay in the US, which spanned over 20 years, Victor Olaotan tried to become a Hollywood actor, but it was futile. However, during his stay in the US, he performed in Broadway shows in Lancaster and was among stage actors in the popular South African play ‘Sizwe Banzi Is Dead’ produced by Jathol Fugard, Winston Ntshona, and John Kani in Canada.

He returned to Nigeria in 2002 and joined the Nollywood movie industry, and soon became a prominent actor after his role as Fred Ade-Williams in MNet Soap Opera, Tinsel in 2012

Victor Olaotan was also featured in Towo Tomo alongside Odunlade Adekola in 2013, and in 2016, he, Zack Orji and Richard Mofe Damijo featured in Opa Williams “Three Wise Men.”

Car accident

Victor Olaotan was involved in an awful motor accident in 2016 when he was driving to a movie around Apple Junction in Festac, Lagos. He was reported to have suffered a traumatic brain injury from the accident.

Two years later, it was made public that he needed $50,000 to be treated abroad, and a Go Fund Me page was created for him and Nigerians as well as his colleagues contributed; however, Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola intervened and paid the hospital bills for his treatment.

The reports revealed that the veteran actor celebrated his 69th birthday on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, in a Turkish hospital.

Death

His wife, Julia Olaotan, revealed he died on Thursday 26th of August, 2021.
