Jose Mourinho is considering a move for one of Chelsea’s biggest flops during the Thomas Tuchel period in order to bolster his midfield this summer.
The 59-year-old capped off an eventful first season at Roma by guiding the club to victory in the Europa Conference League.
Mourinho has aided the careers of former Premier League stars Chris Smalling and Tammy Abraham in the process, and he is hoping to add experienced players to his side this summer.
Mourinho has already reunited with Nemanja Matic, who has represented the Special One at both Manchester United and Chelsea, and according to AS, Saul Niguez is next on his wish list.
Roma came close to signing Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka a year ago but were unable to reach an agreement with the Gunners on a fee.
After that transfer fell through, Xhaka signed a new contract, and with no evidence of Roma rekindling their interest, Mourinho will instead focus on Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, according to AS.
The Spain international joined Chelsea on a one-year loan last summer but failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge.
