According to sources in Spain, Frenkie de Jong has not ruled out moving to Chelsea this summer and would prefer to join Thomas Tuchel’s team over Manchester United.
De Jong has a contract worth €85 million (£72.2 million) with Barcelona, although the midfielder would love to stay at Camp Nou.
Barca must also resolve their present disagreement with De Jong since they owe him outstanding payments totaling more than €20 million (£17 million).
According to reports from last week, De Jong’s agency has been pressuring Chelsea to make Barcelona an offer.
De Jong hasn’t ruled out moving to Chelsea, even though his first goal is to stay at Barcelona, according to Sport.
According to the source, De Jong is opposed to joining United since they will not participate in the Champions League and the Dutch international is not interested in relocating to Manchester.
De Jong ‘does not look favorably’ on a move to United, it is further alleged, although acknowledging that Chelsea have a’sporting project and a structure that meets up to their sporting aspirations’
However, Chelsea hasn’t made Barcelona an official offer for the 25-year-old.
Erik ten Hag’s top priority this summer has been Daley De Jong, and the United manager has pushed the club’s administration to keep working toward a deal even if negotiations go into the closing weeks of the transfer window.
De Jong is presently traveling with the Barcelona team to the United States on their preseason trip.
In the meantime, Barcelona and Chelsea have been negotiating a transfer for Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso.
While negotiations to sign Alonso are still going on, Azpilicueta is now nearing a move to Camp Nou.
