Cesar Azpilicueta is expected to submit a transfer request and force his way out of Chelsea this summer, according to Barcelona.

The Spaniard’s contract was automatically renewed for another year, but he apparently wants to return to Spain.

The 32-year-old has established himself as a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge since joining the club in 2012, and while he is open to leaving, he does not want to depart on a bad note.

According to The Sun, Barcelona is becoming increasingly unhappy with Azpilicueta and wants him to submit a transfer request.

According to the report, the defender will meet with Thomas Tuchel in the next days to try to reach an agreement.

Xavi wants to recruit Azpilicueta because he is short on options at right-back following the departure of Dani Alves.

Chelsea, on the other hand, is hesitant to allow their captain leave, given the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

With Tuchel’s primary central defender alternatives being Thiago Silva, Malang Sarr, and Trevor Chalobah, Azpilicueta’s ability to play in a back three is a significant plus.

Meanwhile, the west London team is rumored to be interested in signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla, but will face stiff competition from Barcelona.

In May, when asked about Azpilicueta’s situation, Tuchel stated that he wanted to keep the player.

‘We had a lot of these chats since it felt like he won everything following the Club World Cup, so I can understand these feelings, that perhaps a cycle is coming to an end,’ he said.
