Chelsea can once again navigate the transfer market now that the sale of the club has been completed and Todd Boehly has taken over as the new owner.

Following the departure of Antonio Rüdiger to Real Madrid, several players are anticipated to depart, with Romelu Lukaku being one of them.

Any deal involving the Belgian would be particularly difficult given that he was only bought for almost £100 million from Inter last summer, and the one club he wants to return to, the same Inter, cannot afford to buy him back outright.

As a result, something needs to be worked out, such as a difficult loan, which is the topic of Gazzetta Dello Sport’s print edition on Tuesday.

‘A year ago, the Blues were like Nirvana for a center-forward in vertical rise, but they now look like a (golden) prison to escape from,’ the publication writes, using multiple musical allusions.

This is because “it is generally known that Big Rom’s dream is to return to Inter, and only Inter,” but “the road to making this desire a reality is very narrow, and there are certain crucial official measures to take.”

Everything has been planned by the Chelsea striker himself, with the assistance of his new lawyer, Sébastien Ledure, with everything hinged on a meeting with the club’s new owners.

‘Before that happens, there is another meeting scheduled to which Lukaku is not invited, but it will still be the elephant in the room,’ according to Gazzetta.

That one is between Thomas Tuchel and Todd Boehly, and the two are scheduled to speak ‘tomorrow, or at the very least Thursday.’

While the two men have already given their presentations, this session will be unique, as the German manager “will stick the knife in the meat and talk about the market,” with Lukaku’s situation described as “the most delicate.”

Tuchel ‘will have to offer the technical judgment on the future of the forward,’ essentially stating that the Belgian ‘is not really compatible with the way he wants to play and that keeping him around would be counterproductive.

After that, Boehly will be able to ‘personally verify the need for decisive action,’ because “sending Rom away would ensure Tuchel the ability to reshape his 2022-23 Chelsea according to his principles and without compromise.”

As a result, a lot is riding on this impending meeting, the results of which will almost certainly be released soon after it takes place, probably on Wednesday or Thursday.
